Hey everyone,

Springtime is great isn't it?  The weather is breaking, the days are longer, and oh those beautiful babies that are being born.  My mare, Chrome, had a beautiful filly we named after Oh Bubba and my dad since she was born on his 71st birthday, Oh Bubbadale, and are we ever crazy about her. 

My plan for the rest of this year is to continue to have 1 show a month, occasionally 2.  There are always a lot of barrel races to attend in the spring and with fuel prices sky high I certainly understand making each trip count.  The NBHA  allows us to count up to 15 shows and so far we have had a total of  6 shows.  I have 3 more posted and my plan is to schedule a show in Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec, which would give us a total of 13 shows for the year and put us in the acceptable range.  Our distrct is in desperate need of new timers.  Ours are old, outdated, and have become difficult to maintain.  As soon as the D champion's awards come in our year end awards for last year will be completed.  I am going to schedule a barrel race and potluck to hand out the awards with the proceeds from this race going towards the purchase of new timers.  This show will be scheduled at Big Step in Benton or Hope Fair Park depending on pen availability so we are able to have the barrel race rain or shine.  Depending on how much we make and the cost of the timers, other fund raising will be planned for the timers.  REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO ATTEND 70% OF SCHEDULED SHOWS TO RECEIVE YOU YEAR END AWARDS THIS DOES INCLUDE FUND RAISERS! 

 We paid barrel setters at or last show at Big Step with $1 for each entry charged on top of the entry fee and this seemed to work out well and gave everyone time to ride their horses.  So, we will continue to do this as barrel setters are available.  Volunteers call me the week of the show or let me know ahead of time at the show.  Pat Reeves's nephew and his friend did a great job for us at Big Step!  This will leave the members open for other working areas.  The members worked in the concession stand and announcers stand at Big Step and show ran very smoothly.  I had more than one person compliment our district on the way the show was ran, and we had 3 new members join as well. 

WELCOME, Christina Cole, Leslie Cole, and Linsey Cole.  Also WELCOME April Hawley from our April 13th show. 

Our next show is again scheduled at Big Step Arena in Benton.  This is a night time show.  The books will open at 6:00PM, EXB 6:30, Show will start at 8:30PM.  This is a Friday night show.  I will try and schedule our shows as the weather gets warmer at night so that the heat is not so hard on the horses. 

Our district has been expanded to take in 1/2 of District 8 to include the Camden/Magnolia area.  I will try and get at least one show scheduled in that area before the year end.  If any one knows the contact people for the pens in that area please let me know. 

Congratulations to Whitney Clement NBHA State 1D champion in the Open and Youth divisions!  We are so proud of you and Cisco! 

I have also spoken with Kim Thomas and we are looking at rescheduling our clinic sometime in the fall.  Anyone interested please let me know so we have some idea of how many people would be signing up for the clinic.
